Once the state agency determines that your child’s disability qualifies, they will calculate the monthly allowance amount the child is entitled to receive. The federal base rate for 2016 is $733 per month, though this will vary depending on the state you live in and whether the child and family meets certain income eligibility requirements. As part of that process, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will also look at the parents’ income to determine the level of need. This is called “deeming income.” The SSA disability income requirements are very detailed, but generally the more income you have the less in benefits you receive.
